What to do in Santa Cruz

Since moving to California, our favorite spot is going to the beach, and Santa Cruz is just the place to un-wind on week-ends, with so much to do.

Here is a list of just a few thing to do.

1- Naturally the first thing is the beaches.

2- Right next to the Main Beach is the boardwalk and Pier. On the boardwalk, you will find the rides, which a favorite with the kiddos, and shops, naturally the food, is your typical fair food. On the Pier you will find other shops and some decent restaurants, and the main entertainment, a fav for kids and adults alike, are the sea lions.

3- Another favorite of ours, is to go and watch the surfers in the water, there are plenty of spots, but here are ours. There is Pleasure Point, you will find this a little south of Main Beach, and the other is Steamer lane, along West Cliff Dr. Walking along West Cliff Dr. you can also discover the the History of Surf Museum and the Surfer Sculpture.

4- Who says Pacific Coast says beautiful sunsets, there are naturally plenty of spots to watch the sunset. The beach is one of them, but we also saw a magnificent sunset at UCSC. If there are clouds do not worry, these can make for beautiful colors.

5- If you are here during the winter months, you can drive to Natural Bridges State Park, and go see the Monarchs Butterflies, they are usually there in late fall, to winter, but it might be safer to call before hand to make sure you will see them. If you walk down to the beach area it is an excellent vantage point to view shore birds, migrating whales, and seals and otters playing offshore. Further along the beach, tidepools offer a glimpse of life beneath the sea. Low tides reveal sea stars, crabs, sea anemones, and other colorful ocean life.

6- If you want to walk, and discover the woods and mountains, drive up to UCSC, there are beautiful grounds and path ways to discover. When there we saw wild turkey and deers.

7- Walking along the residential streets of Santa Cruz is also very pretty, the architecture and landscaping is breath taking.

Hope you enjoy your stay, we like going every couple of months, it reenergizes us.
