DIY Borax Crystal Shapes

We are all into craft projects this week. Since it is Spring Break this week, the Peanut has ask to make craft projects everyday. Today we are showing how we made Borax crystal shapes. I found this so neat to do, the results are so cool.

Here are links that I found that were pretty cool and inspired me to do this project.

You will need:IMG_2739

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Jars
  • Skewers
  • Yarn or ribbon
  • Borax
  • Boiling water

And here is how we made ours. 1st we created our shapes with pipe cleaners. We used colored pipe cleaners, but you could use white ones, too.

Attach each pipe cleaner shape onto a skewer with some yarn. This is how your shapes will hang into the borax solution.

Then fill your jars with 1/3 cup of borax add the hot boiling water and stir to dissolve. Add food coloring if desired to create colored crystals.

Finally, place your hanging shapes in the jar solutions and let set overnight. In the morning, crystals will have formed all around your pipe cleaners, and on the bottom of the jar. Remove and place on paper towels to dry.
